A very special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my dear friend, Kathy's Gram who is 100 years old today.

Birthday Prayer
God our Father,
the birth of your Son Jesus Christ brought great joy to Mary and Joseph.
We give thanks to you for Gram whose birthday we celebrate today.
May she ever grow in your faith, hope, and love.
We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We think of Gram often since we were so blessed to have a blanket she made for my Maria Rose. Thank you Gram for all you have done to bless the lives around you for 100 years.
God Bless you, Gram!!
Please say a "Hail Mary" from Gram, Elaine (her daughter), and Kathy her granddaugher today.
Blessed be God Forever!
Amen.

Teacher of the Year

Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to my cousin, Cathy on receiving Teacher of the Year. She teaches in Puerto Rico. I am so proud of her. She is an amazing person with a heart of gold. Thank you Cathy for what you do to make this world a better place! God Bless you!!

I think the St. Francis Prayer fits this occassion since Cathy is serving her students to make the world a better place to live in.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let us sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is discord, union;where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;where there is darkness, light;where there is sadness, joy.

Grant that we may not so much seek to b consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226)

Please pray for all teachers today and don't forget to pray your rosary!

Blessed Be God Forever!!

Memorial DAy

A Memorial Day Prayer

Nothing has changed. The wounds inflicted by improvised explosive devices are appalling. Go to Walter Reed or Bethesda and see for yourself. The troops are not complaining. They never complain, and so nobody has any right to be less committed to the eternal mission of the soldier than they are.
This Memorial Day, remember that the cemeteries and physical therapy wards are full of men and women who gave their all for you, and who in many cases ask nothing more than to be allowed to go back and do it again. Pray for them. Please.
?I have eaten your bread and salt.I have drunk your water and wine. The deaths ye died, I have watched beside,And the lives ye led were mine.
Was there aught that I did not shareOne joy or woe that I did not know,Dear hearts across the seas?
I have written the tale of our lifeFor a sheltered people?s mirth,In jesting guise?but ye are wise,And ye know what the jest is worth.?
- Rudyard Kipling
Blessed be God Forever!
Don't forget your rosary!

Guppies

My 10 year old son recently got guppies. Two guppies to be exact. I must admitt that I was not excited about getting the guppies. All I could see was the care they would require; cleaning the fish tank, etc. I wasn't at all on the same train of thought as my son.
However, my mind has since changed about the guppies.
I sit and watch my son take in the guppies and their graceful movements through their water world.
His eyes fill with awe and from there I can see he is touched by even the simpliest forms of God's beautiful creation.
I have now taken to watching these guppies as well and must admitt that they are rather relaxing to watch.
My son has taught me (unknowingly I am sure) that if I continue to look only at the beauty of the BIG things, such as the waterfalls I have posted on my blog, then I will miss out on the small things God has created.
Once again, God using the what seems to be the ordinary to make me see the extraordinary.
This is how it is with Opus Dei---finding God in everyday life.
I think I need to start paying attention more the ordinary or I will miss out on some great things in life.
Thanks Joseph and your two guppies for helping me see what I might have missed.
Well, I had better get back to watching the guppies and listening to my son talk about how great it is t0 have them.
Blessed be God forever!

Maria Rose's First Dance Picture

I Hope You Dance
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder

You get your fill to eat But always keep that hunger

May you never take one single breath for granted

God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance

Never settle for the path of least resistance

Living might mean taking chances But they're worth taking

Lovin' might be a mistake But it's worth making

Don't let some hell bent heart Leave you bitter

When you come close to selling out Reconsider

Give the heavens above More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance (Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance (Rolling us along)

I hope you dance (Tell me who)

I hope you dance (Wants to look back on their youth and wonder) (Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance (Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance (Rolling us along)

I hope you dance (Tell me who) (Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

I hope you dance (Where those years have gone) (Tell me who)

I hope you dance (Wants to look back on their youth and wonder) (Where those years have gone)

Jogging

In the small village I live in, there is a young woman who jogs religiously each day. She jogs the same route each day-- rain or shine. From how she holds her body while running, she appears to have a physical handicap. However, she does not seem to let this get in her way despite her slow pace.

In fact, the pace has not seemed to pick up even slightly in the four years that I have observed her jogging.

One day, a friend said to me that she wonders why this young woman jogs daily when she is slow and has not made any progress at all.

I could see my friends point; however, I told her she should not be so quick to judge. We may not see the progress in this young woman, but obvioulsy this young woman could because she kept at it day to day.

Isn't that like each of us in some way? I know for me it might be praying for someone who has strayed from their faith. I might not see the progress in them, but slowly they may. I may continuously be working on my spiritual life day after day and feel I am not making any progress; however, God can see how hard I am working.

From this, I have learned not to judge. We can not fully understand what is going on inside a person nor were we meant to be able to see that. This is only for God to know, to see, and to judge.

Today, when I saw this young woman jogging I thanked God she was able to each day get out and continue what she does.

I also thanked Him for the reminder that I should always try to do my best no matter what barriers I may have and NEVER to judge because it is not my place only HIS

A GUARDIAN ANGEL PRAYERFOR FRIENDS

Guardian Angel,
watch over those whose names you can read in my heart.
Guard over them with every care
and make their way easy and their labours fruitful.
Dry their tears if they weep;
sanctify their joys;
raise their courage if they weaken;
restore their hope if they lose heart,
their health if they be ill,
truth if they err,
repentance if they fail.

Keep the Prayers coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love seeing those beautfiul eyes!
This is a picture that is so precious.
I received this last night from dearest friend, Patti of Melissa.
Yes, her eyes are open.
She had periods of alertness yesterday and I cannot explain to you the excitement Patti had in her voice when telling me about the days events with Melissa.
Not only did she open her eyes throughout the day, she was able to track people when they talked to her.
Blessed be God Forever!
Her cousin is in from Florida and when she told Melissa she was there, Melissa opened her eyes and looked at her.
Patti also said that Rebecca (Mel's sister) purchased a picture of two angels and showed it to Melissa and she looked at it.
This is so wonderful and we can be reassured that through the prayers she is receiving, this is a HUGE sign of things to come.
Thank you everyone for all your prayers and I ask that you continue to pray for this beautiful young woman.
Don't forget to say your rosary today!
Our God is an AWESOME!
We love you Melissa and so happy to see those beautiful eyes!

Graduation Prayer

Father, I have knowledge, so will you show me now, how to use it wisely and find a way somehow To make the world I live in a little better place, and make life with its problems a little bit easier to face. Grant me faith and courage and put purpose in my days, And show me how to serve thee in effective ways. So my education, my knowledge and my skill may find their true fulfillment as I learn to do thy will. And may I ever be aware in everything I do, that knowledge comes from learning, and wisdom comes from you. Amen.

Happy Birthday Matthew!!

Prayer Request

As most of you know, my blog's main purpose it so spread prayer requests since I feel that the power of prayer is so important in each of our lives.

Please add Merrily Harrison to your prayer list. She is a dear friend's mother. She had a tumor removed from her arm and it was found to be malignant. Thank God it was caught early and is only staged at grade one. She will have surgery next Wednesday. She is seeing an oncologist.

It was so beautiful to hear from her daughter that her faith is strong and that she is at peace with all of this.

Please keep Merrily and her family in your prayers and I will keep you updated!

Prayer for the Sick

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to you in this time of illness. O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We place our sick under your care and humbly ask that you restore your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love of us. Amen.

Don't forget to say your rosary today! Our Lady is waiting to hear from you!

Eating locally

I learned a new word while reading my edible Finger Lakes magazine.

Locavore: someone who prefers to eat food grown or produced locally, usually within a reasonable drive from home.

I love that word! Being that I am vegetarian, it is no wonder the word appealed to me. After reading the definition, I decided that must be what my family and I are.

We are blessed to live in the Finger Lake Region where there is so much fresh produce to be offered to us starting in the Spring.

We are even blessed with many, many wineries along the Finger Lakes. It is a treat to stop by a few of the wineries for a tasting, but I have to admitt that I only do this when we have company. It makes for a fun afternoon and gives our guests something different to do and they also get a great view of gorgeous Cayuga and Seneca Lakes.

We have a goat farm near by Lively Run Goat Farm. They have the most delicious goat's milk cheese. It is such a nice treat in the afternoon on my Kashi Seven Whole Grain crackers or as a grilled cheese with tomatoe.

Then we have the Central New York Regional Market in Syracuse. There is so much going on there that I am like a kid in a candy store. I just love farmer's markets and this one is the best.

We also have Wegmans grocery store. It was voted Best Grocery Store Chain by Food Network last year. They by local produce as well and they have the most delicious foods in their deli, bakery, and meat/seafood departments. I have to make sure I stay within my grocery budget when I am there and let me to you it is hard.

Then we have the fresh asparagus, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, eggs, etc., etc., etc. that we have access to as well. Did I mention homemade ice cream made by the Cayuga Creamery directly from their dairy farm? Although as of late, we like to make our own homemade ice cream using the local fresh ingredients. We also have Byrne Dairy that has milk free from all the additive stuff. We get ours in a glass bottle and the taste is out of this world; now only if they would deliver to my door step as the milk man use to do years ago.

I get so excited when I think of the delicious meals I can cook from all the local foods.

We also have local coffee roasters as well and then there is the New York Culinary and Wine Institute. They teach people how to cook with local foods and what a treat it is.

There is so much to love about the food in the Finger Lake Region. I am so blessed that my family and I are able to enjoy this piece of God's precious world!!

Remember, Our God is an Awesome God!

Blessed be God forever!

Don't forget to say your Rosary today and to continue praying for Melissa and little Ella!

Update on Melissa Hackney

Wonderful News on Melissa Hackney!
I spoke with my dear friend, Patti (Melissa's mother) tonight and she had some good news to share with me about Melissa.
Her progress is slow, but her third bone marrow did engraft so we can consider our prayers answered for that!
Blessed Be God!
She has been off the medication that put her brain at rest for about 5 days now. They will slowly wean her from the Versed that she is currently taking.
Today, (with many witnesses) Patti and Rebecca (Mel's sister) were able to arouse her enough to see her left eye follow them.
It is small progress, but what wonderful news!
Please keep your prayers coming.
I am looking forward to the day we can tell Melissa about all you wonderful people who have been praying for her.
I am also looking forward to posting pictures from the BIG party Patti and I have discussed about having once all of this is said and done.
God is an AWESOME God and He is listening to our prayers!1
Thank you my dear Prayer Warriors!!
Thank You!!
For all of you, I will say a "Hail Mary" as thanksgiving on the time you are giving up to pray for my dear friend's beautiful daughter.
God Bless!
Kimberly

Summer is Coming!!

Summer is on its way!
As a family, we love to be on the lake. Since we live only 10 minutes from Cayuga Lake (one of the Finger Lakes), we decided to purchase wave runners last year.
As of date, we have four; two Sea-Doos and two Yamahas.
The deal was we get rid of the two Sea-Doos (they are older) and keep the Yamamhas (one was new last year and the other is used, but newer).
We are excited to get the wave riding season going.

What do you and your family do during the summer that all of enjoy?

My mom sent this to me. A sad story, please add Ella and her family to your prayers.

On Sunday, April 27th, Ella Newmiller and her family attended church at Edenton Street United Methodist, in Raleigh, as they do each week. Ella did not feel well that evening. Her parents, Renae and Mark, took her to an urgent care facility. On Monday, they found themselves at UNC Hospitals, being faced with the news that their precious daughter has an inoperable brain tumor. It is located at the base of her brain, inside the brain stem.

Friday, May 2nd, was Ella's 5th birthday. Friends at Edenton Street pulled together an amazing celebration for 'Princess Ella'. She arrived in a horse drawn carriage and was greeted by over 100 friends dressed in their royal best. 'Mr. and Miss Wolf' from NC State, plus 'Stormy', from the Carolina Hurricanes joined in the celebration. There was a DJ, beauty queens, bubbles, balloons and presents.

Ella's mother, Renae, commented, 'We don't need meals or errands. The only thing we really need is PRAYER.' Renae asked me to tell friends, 'even if they don't know Ella', to please pray. She asked that those friends ask 10 friends (even if they don't know the Newmillers) to pray. So, I am asking you to pray daily for Ella Newmiller, for the oncologists and physicians directing her care, for her parents, Renae and Mark, and for her brother Jack (2nd grade). Pray for God's healing hand. Pray for both direction and comfort for Ella's family. Also pray for strength and courage for Ella. Additionally, if you feel led, please forward this prayer request to friends.

I am attaching a photo of Ella from Friday's 5th birthday celebration. If you would like updates on Ella, please log onto her care page at http://www.carepages.com/ , under Ella Newmiller. There are simple prompts to help you log on. Thanks~

If you have prayer requests or stories to share regarding those who are sick and in need of many prayers, please email me at pburke002@rochester.rr.com and will be so grateful to put them on this site!

Our Lady of Fatima

The Seven Prayers of Fatima
During the course of the apparitions at Fatima, the three child seers were taught five unique and powerful prayers, two by the Angel of Peace and three by the Mother of God. Later, appearing to Sister Lucy at Rianjo, Spain, Our Lord Jesus Christ dictated two further prayers. For millions of people, these prayers are today a living embodiment of the Message of hope and peace which Our Lady gave the world at Fatima. In the past few years, through the efforts of Our Lady's Apostolate, a pious practice has developed of reciting one (or more) of these prayers on a daily basis. The following schedule of prayers is a suggestion only; please feel free to recite them in any order which you find most comforting and appropriate.
Monday
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You!

Tuesday
O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Wednesday
O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are most in need.

Thursday
O Most Holy Trinity, I adore You! My God, my God, I love You in the most Blessed Sacrament!

Friday
Sweet Heart of Mary, be the salvation of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world.

Saturday
By your pure and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, obtain for me the conversion of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the entire world.

Sunday
Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the sacrileges, outrages and indifference by which He Himself is offended. And through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of you the conversion of poor sinners."
A side note, our youngest, Lucy Marie is name after Sr. Lucia. My husband has a devotion to Our Lady of Fatima!
Don't forget your to say your rosary today!
Blessed be God forever because He is an Awesome God!

Today I am giving out my first "You are an Awesome Person Award."
My first winner is Angie Melvin Collins from my hometown of Elwood, IN.
Angie has given a great gift to one of our former high school teachers, Mrs. P.
Angie donated a kidney to Mrs. P.
Angie,
Your example of kindness and caring for others makes you one awesome person. Thank you for helping Mrs. P and showing others how to "love their neighbor."
I am so proud of you!
You and Mrs. P are in my prayers for a speedy recovery!
What a special gift you have given!!
Blessed be God forever!

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is.
--Author Unknown
I am so blessed to live in the most beautiful area of New York state. I live in the Finger Lake Region. The picture above is just one of many beautiful waterfalls I have been able to experience with my husband and children. Each time I see a waterfall, it reminds me of the many miracles I experience each day. I think at times we get caught up in looking for the big miracles and we quickly forget the little miracles that we experience each day!
Life is a miracle!! If we look with awe and wonder at our lives, we will live to be much happier people. We will also appreciate all the wonderful blessings God has given us instead of taking them for granted.
Waterfall picture taken in Ithaca, NY by my ten year old son. I feel so blessed that he already can see the beauty in the world around him.
Blessed be God forever!
For today, remember life is a miracle!! Enjoy each miracle as they come and savor them. Our God is an awesome God and so are His miracles!!

Happy Pentecost!

Happy Birthday to the Catholic Church!!
Praise God from whom all blessings flow---
God's gift to us His son and when his son ascended into heaven, he gave us the Church to carry on!
The Catholic Faith today still consists of the very same teachings that Jesus taught to His disciples.

Happy Mother's Day!
Your mother chose life and thank God she did!
A pro-life mother is a mother who sees life as God's gift and that life is precious!
For all you mothers out there who chose life and teach your children to be pro-life,
thank you!
For those mothers who are not pro-life,
you are in my prayers!
Blessed be God forever!

Pray the Rosary!
Pray the Rosary with your Mother or for your Mother today!
Happy Mother's Day!

A Blessed Mother's Day!
Love begins at home; love lives in homes, and that is why there is so much suffering and so much unhappiness in the world today. If we listen to Jesus He will tell us what he said before," Love one another, as I have loved you." He has loved us through suffering, dying on the Cross for us, and so if we are to love one another, if we are to bring that love into lifeagain, we have to begin at home.
---Blessed Mother Teresea
As mothers, God depends on us to bring love into our homes. He depends on us to make sure our husbands and children know, love, and serve Him. It is also our duty to have a solid prayer life so that we make fill our homes with love and to show our children that we trust in God and look to Him for guidance in even the small things in life.
We should also look to the Blessed Mother for support, encouragement, and guidance. God gave us a perfect example of motherhood in her. Ask her for her intercession; ask her for her support; she is there for all of us no matter what stage in life we are.
Happy Mother's Day to all!
A very special Happy Mother's Day to my mom, Grace & my mother-in-law, Judy.
May God bless each Mother on this special day with His love and His endless Mercy!
Blessed be God forever!

Roasry.

Pray the Rosary every day.

The Memorare
REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Our God is an Awesome God and many times over He has proven that to me. He has blessed my life more than I could deserve. He truly is a loving Father despite all that I have done and all that I have failed to do. Without my faith in God and my Catholic journey through life, I surley would never come to be the person God intended for me to be. I am still so far away from the person God wants me to be, but with each day's journey I step a little closer.
The intent of my blog is to post prayer requests, as well as, write about things important to me like my family, my faith, Opus Dei, helping to feed the poor in our country, G.K. Chesterton, Pro-life issues, books and movies I think are worth the time, and tributes to the many people who continually touch my life each day!
The picture above of Blessed Mother Teresa is one of my favorties. No one in this world could be more pro-life than her. Her example continues to touch my life and help shape who I am becoming. She inspires me along with St. Therese the Little Flower and finding my way through the little things. This blog; therefore, will contain writings about the Saints and how they were ordinary people like us and how they became extraordinary for God!
I hope you will enjoy my blog and find some information useful, inspiring, or just worth the time reading.
Blessed be God forever and remember, Our God is an AWESOME God!!
